Kensington Roof Gardens
After having been closed since January 2018, refurbishment has begun of the Kensington Roof Gardens, atop the former Derry & Toms department store on Kensington High Street.
A Thorough Restoration
Access for the general public will be very limited, as its three gardens and various buildings once again will become a private members’ club, just as Richard Branson ran it from 1981 to 2001.
The refurbishment will bring about a thorough restoration of the site, with the aim to restore it to its 1938 original and associated glamour throughout the 20th century.
mode assisted throughout the planning application process and worked collaboratively with the project team to develop a transport strategy to satisfy both the operator and their clientele, as well as secure approval from highways officers at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. This included for the consideration of waste collection, servicing and delivery arrangements, as well as supporting guest arrival.
A Transport Statement, Travel Plan and Construction Traffic Management Plan were all prepared by mode to enable planning approval, the latter of which requiring close working with the contractor to balance the ongoing operation of the car parking area to be used as a construction compound, whilst ensuring that all necessary materials could be transported to the site and in-line with strict local authority construction standards.
