mode is proud to have provided inputs to support a planning application for a new automotive museum, known as the Mullin Automotive Museum. The Mullin at Great Tew and will consist of a £130 million new development on a brownfield site near Chipping Norton in West Oxfordshire. The development will be complete with museum, demonstration track, pavilion and 28 holiday lodges.
After lengthy Section 106 negotiations with relevant parties, the decision notice was issued for The Mullin Automotive Park in May 2020 and it now progresses to the detailed design and reserved matters application stage.
Attracting up to 200,000 visitors per year and allowing for luxury Concours d’Elegance events, mode transport prepared a comprehensive transport strategy. This included, extensive consultation and information was provided to the public to address any transport related concerns raised. This then allowed the Planning Committee Members to reach a positive recommendation, voted in favour by twelve votes to eight.
mode prepared the following key transport related elements in support of the planning application:
- detailed analysis and breakdown of all visitors split across a variety of modes;
- liaison and meetings with Oxfordshire County Council Officers;
- preparation of a report of full transport assessment;
- preparation of a comprehensive travel plan;
- introducing the concept of a travel forum for the community; and
- outlining the Museum’s travel strategy, including the use of adaptive shuttle buses.
Founder of Mullin Automotive Park,Peter Mullin stated about the proposals:
“By any conventional measure this will not just be another car museum. We have had the automobile for just over a century, but my great grandchildren will probably never drive a motor car – at least not as we know it. Instead they will travel in secure autonomous pods controlled by a computer. The Mullin Automotive Park will tell the powerful story of the automobile and its role in shaping our societies, while also offering a view into the myriad possibilities that the future holds.”
