Thank you to London Property Alliance (CPA & WPA) and Grosvenor for hosting the breakfast seminar based on Workplace & Workspace: ‘the role of the office in London’s success’.

The seminar explored how workspaces and workplaces have evolved from before the Covid-19 pandemic to the current day. Of keynote, was the effect of a large proportion of Londoners shifting to a hybrid working model during and beyond the pandemic.

With hybrid working becoming the new norm, the effect on London’s agglomeration economy was discussed in relation to the continued shared funding of infrastructure by commuters, falling behind cities such as Paris, which has seen a greater return to the office.

In essence, London’s transport system needs to adapt in response. With approximately 70% of its income coming from ticket sales, the funding gap caused by fewer workers commuting can lead to public transport services being cut. This increases travel time and accessibility, which can have a detrimental impact on London’s agglomeration economy.
