Laurus Grace Alternative Provision School

Project Summary

Proposals for the construction of a new specialist ‘Alternative Provision’ school were submitted to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council in Spring 2023. Planning permission was granted in September 2023, after being unanimously supported by members at both stages of the planning committee process.

The Laurus Grace Alternative Provision School will accommodate up to 80 pupils who are struggling with their emotional health and wellbeing, and who have Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH). The school will be managed by the Laurus Trust, a multi-Academy trust operating various schools across the North West.

mode prepared the supporting Transport Assessment, which included off-site junction capacity modelling, a first-principles trip generation assessment and a trip distribution assessment based on the site’s location compared to other ‘Alternative Provision’ schools in the area.

The application was also supported by a School Travel Plan, to encourage the use of sustainable modes of travel to the site and to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicles on the local highway network.
