Trekking with a Cause: Annapurna Base Camp with New Futures Nepal
At mode transport planning, we believe in integrity, growth, passion, initiative, and fun; not just in the work we deliver for our clients, but in the way we live life outside the office.
This September, I had the privilege of putting those values into action as Managing Director, supporting the inspirational work of New Futures Nepal with a once in a lifetime five-day trek from Pokhara to Annapurna Base Camp.
The Journey Begins
Our small but determined team set off from Pokhara, full of anticipation and energy. What awaited us was a test of stamina, teamwork, and perseverance. The trail took us through lush forests, steep stone steps, fast-flowing rivers, and mountain villages where we were greeted with warm Nepali hospitality.
But trekking in late monsoon season meant the journey was far from easy; muddy trails, leeches in the undergrowth, and unpredictable weather all did their best to slow us down. Yet, the camaraderie within the team, and the knowledge that we were raising awareness and support for New Futures Nepal, kept us moving forward.
Reaching New Heights
On day five, at precisely 09:30 Nepali time, our team proudly stood at Annapurna Base Camp. The sense of achievement was overwhelming. Surrounded by some of the world’s highest peaks, the moment was both humbling and unforgettable.
Congratulations to our intrepid and determined trekking team who, despite unpredicted circumstances, leeches, and late monsoon conditions, reached Annapurna Base Camp at 09:30 Nepali time this morning.
Why We Walked
Every step of this trek was in support of New Futures Nepal, a charity that provides education, healthcare, and brighter futures for children and families in need. Their work in transforming lives is nothing short of remarkable, and I was proud to represent mode transport planning in supporting such an important cause. mode generated over £10,000 to the charity which has helped build a new wing to their Mandala House project.
Looking Ahead
Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp was more than just a physical challenge; it was a reminder of the power of teamwork, determination, and purpose. Just as in transport planning, success lies in developing a Vision and through collaboration and resilience, delivering on that Vision with a team.
We’ll continue to support New Futures Nepal, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of our collective efforts. Together, I feel that mode can make a difference both in and out of the office environment.
