ING RED UK appointed mode transport planning to provide a full transport strategy in support of the redevelopment of the King’s Triangle in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
This brownfield regeneration proposal includes new retail, office and residential units. The focus of the transport work involved reviewing the bus routes through the development site and to review town centre parking to ensure that the town centre development can be as sustainable as possible This was done by balancing parking numbers, enhanced facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
The existing provision of town centre transport facilities was previously audited during the planning process and the enhancements currently being promoted were developed through discussions with Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The updated designs included investment in new public realm, provision of new car and cycle parking, enhanced public transport facilities as well as improved pedestrian crossings at signalised junctions. The production of an updated travel plan reinforced the use of sustainable proposals. mode’s inputs included:
- full and detailed transport assessment;
- town centre parking review and accumulation;
- review of Crossrail extension;
- public realm review between the station and the site;
- rerouting of town centre bus services and new and improved bus facilities;
- a compressive servicing strategy;
- a review of all one-way streets in proximity to the site;
- in depth (monthly) project meetings with Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead; and
- travel plan to reinforce the use of sustainable modes of transport.
