From Annapurna to Everest: Trekking Even Higher for New Futures Nepal
After the unforgettable experience of reaching Annapurna Base Camp earlier this month, the extended monsoon season brought unpredictable conditions, and the riots in Kathmandu meant changes to travel and our safety plans. So I thought my Himalayan trekking adventures might be over for 2025.
Rather than stand still, I chose to step forward, taking on the challenge of trekking to Everest Base Camp alone in support of New Futures Nepal.
Nine Days to Everest
The nine-day trek to Everest Base Camp began with a flight into Lukla before trekking to Phakding, followed by the climb to Namche Bazaar and a vital acclimatisation day. From there, the trail led higher through Tengboche and Dingboche, with each step bringing thinner air and ever-closer views of the Himalayas.
Pushing on to Lobuche and then Gorakshep, the journey reached its peak on 27 September with the final trek to Everest Base Camp itself, before returning to Gorakshep for the night. The route back retraced steps through Lobuche, finishing with a return flight from the mountains to Kathmandu on 29 September—an unforgettable adventure from start to finish.
Standing at the base of the world’s highest mountain was a surreal and powerful moment. Just as at Annapurna, it was a journey full of challenges—thin air, steep climbs, yet this time glorious weather: but also one of resilience and perspective.
Why It Matters
These treks were not just about reaching summits. They were about raising awareness and support for New Futures Nepal, a charity dedicated to creating better futures through education and healthcare for children and families across Nepal. Their work is a daily uphill climb, and I’m proud that my steps, whether through mud and leeches at Annapurna or boulders and thin air on the Everest trail, can help highlight their cause.
At mode transport planning, our values of integrity, growth, passion, initiative, and fun were with me every step of the way. These Himalayan treks reminded me that whether in business, community, or the mountains, progress comes from vision, determination, and never being afraid to walk some of the most difficult paths.
