Residential Redevelopment

mode transport planning was appointed by Galliard Homes Ltd and Apsley House Capital PLC  to undertake transportation work to support a planning application for the redevelopment of the former Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College site off Belgrave Middleway. mode’s work includes the following key elements:

  • masterplanning advice;
  • streetscape and public realm design;
  • review of emerging transport policies and schemes with BCC (CAZ and the walking and cycling strategy);
  • dialogue with BCCs highways officers;
  • detailed access strategy
  • junction design and capacity assessments
  • parking assessment based on DCLG methodology to support the level of parking proposed
  • servicing strategy;
  • transport assessment;
  • travel plan;
  • air quality and noise assessment data;
  • and, stopping up orders

Supporting Planning Applications

The scheme comprises of a new residential development of 438 homes and aims to create a new neighbourhood, called Belgrave Village, comprising a mix of two, three and four-bedroom townhouses and one and two-bedroom apartments, private and shared courtyard gardens, landscaped public realm and a linear park. Galliard and Apsley have worked closely with Birmingham City Council and the community in designing a development that will provide a mix of housing that will support first time buyers and larger families, creating a new and vibrant community for the city.
